Gerakan is gaining more members in Sabah, according to its president Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) ally, Gerakan, is fully behind the decision by the government to scrap the proposed coal-fired power plant project that is in line with the sustainability concept under the New Economic Model (NEM).

Party president senator Koh Tsu Koon said the decision clearly reflected the people first spirit under the 1Malaysia concept.

“I believe the people in Sabah and all the parties would support this smart decision. It reflected the commitment of the chief minister and the BN to continue make environment as its main agenda. So this is most welcome,” said Koh, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

He remembered that in July last year during the dialogue with the Chinese community here, a group of people from Green Surf came to submit a memorandum on the proposed project.

“And now the chief minister managed to bring the message to the prime minister… congratulations,” he said at the Gerakan Chinese New Year celebration at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort near here yesterday.

Koh said the scrapping of the project was one of the three reasons for the BN to smile in this Year of the Rabbit.

The other two were the victory in the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election and the fact that many people are now joining Gerakan.

“Who say there are no more people in Gerakan? In fact, more are coming especially in Sabah,” he said.
