KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended firmer today, driven by continuous gains mostly seen in selected heavyweights, pushing the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) to an intra-day high of 1,582.39, dealers said.
At 5 pm, the FBM KLCI gained 11.78 points or 0.75% to close at 1,582.39 compared with Monday’s close of 1,570.61.
The market was closed yesterday for Workers’ Day celebration.
Genting and CIMB, which were the biggest contributors to the benchmark index with 3.91 points, gained 32 sen to RM10.66 and 11 sen to RM7.52, respectively.
The Finance Index jumped 123.3 points to 14,166.13 while the Industrial Index eased 4.14 points to 2,816.5 but the Plantation Index surged 56.92 points to 8,709.31.
The FBM Emas Index advanced 72.82 points to 10,856.58, the FBMT100 Index gained 72.33 points to 10,660.28, the FBM 70 Index improved 48.94 points to 11,965.03 and the FBM ACE Index was 41.89 points higher at 4,559.12.
Gainers thumped losers by 458 to 281 while 288 counters were unchanged, 499 untraded and 38 others were suspended.
Turnover surged to 1.334 billion shares valued at RM1.434 billion from Monday’s closing of 945.419 million shares worth RM1.382 billion.
Volume on the Main Market improved to 870.642 million shares valued at RM1.346 billion from Monday’s close of 601.107 million shares worth RM1.325 billion.
Turnover on the ACE Market rose to 305.848 million shares worth RM57.925 million from 219.507 million shares, valued at RM35.252 million previously.
Warrants rose to 152.884 million shares worth RM28.034 million compared with 119.674 million units valued RM18.139 million on Monday.
Apart from Genting, other top gainers were AEON Credit Service, which gained 30 sen to RM11 followed by AEON Co., which was up by 29 sen to RM9.80.
Among the actives, Naim Indah added six sen to 51.5 sen, 1 Utopia slipped half a sen to eight sen while Ariantec Global edged up half a sen to 25 sen.
As for heavyweights, Maybank rose eight sen to RM8.71, Sime Darby inched up one sen to RM9.75 and Petronas Chemical increased five sen to RM6.58.
Consumer products accounted for 99.139 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 139.082 million, construction 24.749 million, trade and services 417.947 million, technology 36.747 million, infrastructure 17.444 million, finance 52.806 million, hotels 299,700, properties 59.4 million, plantations 13.739 million, mining 8,000, REITs 3.447 million and closed/fund 21,000.
