Abdul Ghani is chairman of Sime Darby

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd has appointed Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman as its new chairman yesterday. Ghani, the former Mentri Besar of Johor, replaces Tun Musa Hitam who resigned last November.

Ghani was the mentri besar of Johor for 18 years and he was defeated by Opposition stalwart, Lim Kit Siang, in the Gelang Patah constituency in the recently concluded 13th General Election. Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, who was the acting chairman of the company, was redesignated as a non independent ED.

Ghani was the deputy minister of energy, telecommunications and post from 1987- 1990, and also of finance from 1990-1993. He was appointed as the youth and sports minister from 1993 to 1995.
