PETALING JAYA: Feb 29, 2012 will not just mark the leap day of the year, but will also be the landmark day when the 1st Global Independent Music awards gets underway.

“We started the vision four years ago when we helped struggling musicians in Malaysia carve a name in the industry via VIMA, the 1st Malaysian Indie Music Awards. That grew into AVIMA, where we began to identify and honour independent musicians from all across Asia. These two music brands merged to provide the blueprint for what is today The Bite My Music Global Awards.

“As we evolved to help musicians in countries from different parts of the world, we realised it was the same problem and issues that surfaced. That drove us to look into the needs of musicians beyond Asia. This gave birth to what we termed as sub-awards, or awards that would act as qualifying rounds to a grand finals similar to the World Cup.” said Siva “Zaphod” Chandran, founder of the awards and COO of Bite Media.

The Bite My Music Global team

“Its been a long journey to get here, but we’re ecstatic that all the pieces of the puzzle have produced such a phenomenal music platform. I guess we’re unique and credible because of the amount of time, money and resources we have invested from our own pockets into unconditionally helping musicians over the years. We have always stayed neutral in the music scene and that has also help grow our reputation in the market” said Meera Thuraivel, CEO of Bite Media and the co-founder of all the awards.

Siva adds, “We started off with only one vision – “To unite the world via music”, and right before our eyes we have seen it come together and it can only get better. From China to Brazil, from Europe to Indonesia, from UK to Japan and from America to Australia, we’ve got everyone covered. Our global blueprint covers all countries via four very unique music awards that caters to various regions culminating in a grand finals.
Also, there are very few Malaysian companies that have made a mark in the world, and we’re proud to follow in the ranks of AirAsia in becoming one of the more recognized brands in the world.”

The Bite My Music Global Awards is judged based on 30% of the scores coming from online polls and 70% of the remaining scores from a set of global judges made up of celebrities, industry experts, music critics, Grammy winning producers and the common person on the street.

The awards is also unique for allowing submissions from bedroom DJs, college acts, concert performances and even demo versions. It also champions singles rather than albums and recognizes songs of all languages in all genres including electronica,hip-hop,metal,pop,dance,rock and mash-ups/remixes.
