Lady Kash and Krissy are the dynamic rap/singer female duo from Singapore. They created all sorts of history for their song Irumbile when they partnered AR Rahman for Endhiran.
The inescapable combination of Krissy’s spellbinding and alluring vocals tied together with Lady Kash’s unique flavoured voice delivering head-spinning rap vocals, equates to these girls definitely being a force to reckon with and a heart-stealing combination!
The Singapore duo transcended all expectations and brought about a new breakthrough by becoming the first international singer/rapper female duo to contribute to soundtracks in the Indian cinema.
In July 2010, they gave Indian cinema and its massive worldwide audience a fresh and innovative new sound when they combined vocals with two-time Oscar Award winning music composer AR Rahman in the soundtrack ‘Irumbile Oru Irudhayam’ (translates to: Heart of Steel) for Indian cinema’s costliest movie ever made, “Endhiran – The Robot” which had been directed by renowned filmmaker S Shankar.
The song rapidly became the people’s favorite and also went on to create a record by becoming the first Tamil soundtrack album to ever enter and top the international iTunes Chart – namely, the US, the UK and Australian charts – that too, in just four days after the movie’s audio was released.
Listeners also coined the song the compliment of being the ‘first international sounding soundtrack for Indian cinema’. To top it all off, the movie starred the biggest names of the industry; Superstar Rajnikanth and the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachan. It also went on to become a milestone in the timeline of the world’s movie industry.
In February 2012, Kash and Krissy were also recipients of the Awakening Award at the VIMA Music Awards for their amazing Project ONE, to help reforestation, education for children in rural areas and providing clean water for necessary parts of the world.
FMTNews caught up with the duo:
If you had a chance to collaborate with any musician on the planet, who would it be and why?
Krissy: Would love to collaborate with Jessie J! Her personality radiates and she is real talented, both vocally and as a songwriter. She believes in how everyone should be true to themselves and embrace it, which is something we strongly believe in as well. Would be both an honor and a dream come true to collaborate with her.
Lady Kash: I’d love to collaborate with Lauryn Noelle Hill. Her music speaks her soul and she’s such a strong woman, with firm beliefs and courage. Take one listen to her music, that’s all it takes. You’ll connect, right to the core.
You’ve been asked to pose nude for a magazine and this is your best chance to gain publicity… would you do it?
Lady Kash and Krissy: Definitely not. There are many ways to gain publicity and there’s no need to succumb to posing nude for magazine. We want to be recognized for our talent, personalities and music.
You look into the crystal ball and see your future? What does it say?
Lady Kash and Krissy: True happiness, Project One having a wider and stronger positive influence on our world, and our music being embraced and putting smiles on faces around the world. Oh and we’ll throw in a couple of Grammys here! ;)
Share with us two of your favourite quotes?
Krissy: Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind. – Dr. Suess
Lady Kash: Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure. You’ve got the find the treasure, so that everything you have learnt along the way can make sense. – The Alchemist
What is your biggest achievement to date?
Lady Kash and Krissy: Our collaborations with AR Rahman. He has always been a true inspiration to us and we’ve very much visualized working with him. He’s a beautiful human being. We grew up listening to his songs and they all bring back special and fond memories of our childhood. And to collaborate with him was a definite honour, joy and dream come true. Still feels surreal!
What is your advice to up and coming musicians ?
Lady Kash and Krissy: No matter what, remain true to yourself. When you remain true to yourself, you remain true to your material. When you remain true to your material, your art retains real spirit and will reach hearts. Music is a gift from a higher source and it comes from within so don’t be afraid to be yourself. And while you’re at it.. stay grounded, have fun, spread love and explore music – its a boundless ocean.
What would you like to be remembered for?
Lady Kash: I’d want to be remembered for my purpose (which I believe and hope I’d rise to), what I fought for and lived for and for spreading love and music.
Krissy: I want to be remembered for being an example of being true to yourself and for my music being able to touch hearts around the world.
