Hotels that go the distance

GYM facilities are almost synonymous with any hotel as customers demand a place to work out and stay active while on the road. Others, though, go the extra mile to keep their guests happy. Outdoor jogging tracks are now part and parcel of some hotels that allow guests to exercise within a safe environment while enjoying the natural air.

Here are five hotels that go the distance:

Shangri-la Kerry Centre Hotel Beijing: This five-star hotel is known for its legendary luxury hospitality and is popular among Beijing Who’s Who for social events and soirees. Beyond the informal but ultra-chic environment, it stays focused on its guests, offering a mind-boggling inventory of recreational activities housed in a 6,000-square-metre space, Beijing’s largest, including a 235-metre jogging track.

Conrad Bangkok: In Bangkok’s bustling CBD, this property provides a safe haven with rooms that merge modern with traditional Thai influences. The 7th floor of the hotel has been designed for health and relaxation with high-end recreational facilities. There’s an onsite Bodyworx Fitness Centre while the rooftop jogging track in the adjoining garden offers a 220-metre workout circuit with Bangkok’s magnificent skyline as company.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong: Located in Wanchai with sweeping views of Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour, the hotel ensures everything is done in a grand scale. This includes its award-winning spa and options for guests to exercise with a personal trainer. Alternatively, the 400-metre jogging path provides guests a different workout approach, one that brings them through a manicured garden that houses a children’s playground and pond, simultaneously creating a wonderful oasis for runners within the bustling city.

The Sultan Hotel Jakarta: True to its name, this property provides nothing short of a majestic experience for guests. The largest hotel in Jakarta with 694 rooms, it still manages to deliver warm service and hospitality. Sitting on 32 acres of landscaped gardens, the lush greenery provides a stress-relieving backdrop for the hotel’s jogging track. Measuring 500 metres in length, it encircles a collection of tropical coconut trees and local foliage, where a run in the evening is rewarded by an even spectacular sight with walkways softly lit up with lanterns.

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila: It may be in the city, but this property feels far from it, thanks to its resort setting and prime seafront location. Some rooms even have balconies that provide stunning views of Manila Bay. Its tropical gardens sprawl across a 12-acre site set with shady palm trees where runners have the option to use the jogging trails. Against the backdrop of the open seas and soul-soothing greenery, this provides the perfect workout any time of the day.
