President Chua says his party is stepping in where the government has not delivered

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is set to launch a RM30 million loan fund for tertiary education that is open to students of all races as long as they are needy.

“This no-interest loan will apply to all Malaysians after SPM, STPM, UEC or any pre-U, pursuing degree courses which are recognised,” party president Dr Chua Soi Lek told a press conference at the MCA headquarters here today.

He said the loan would be RM30,000 for students in local universities and RM50,000 for those in foreign institutions.

Those pursuing post-graduate education would receive between RM80,000 and RM100,000.

“We are flexible,” Chua added. “If the courses are more expensive, they can tell us. The loan will be awarded based on financial need.”

MCA hopes to launch the programme by next month and receive applications from all races.

Chua said his party was stepping in where the government had not delivered.

The details of the programme are being worked out by a committee chaired by Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha, who is MCA’s secretary-general.
