Guan Eng gives Umno Online 48 hours

Lim Guan Eng says he has no choice but to take action against Umno for continuing to attack his son

PETALING JAYA: A furious Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has given Umno Online a 48-hour window to withdraw articles attacking his son and to issue an apology before he lodges a police report against it.

Pro-Umno blogs had last week accused Lim’s 16-year-old son of outraging the modesty of a female classmate which resulted in him being transferred to another school.

The bloggers also claimed that Lim had paid the girl’s family RM200,000 to keep the issue under wraps.

The accusations, however, turned out to be baseless after the girl was found to be a 21-year old chess champion from Hong Kong named Anya Corke who has since issued a statement denying the incident.

The headmaster of the boy’s former school as well as Penang education director, Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin, both confirmed that the allegations were untrue.

In spite of this, however, Deputy Prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that a denial was not enough to prove the boy’s innocence and challenged Lim to lodge a police report.

“I wanted to put the matter to rest so as not to affect my young son,” Lim said in a blog posted today. “He had skipped school for two days when the lies first surfaced.”

“I had no wish for him to go through with this again or deal with police investigations which involves ninja character assassins operating behind shadowy pro-BN blogs.”

The “unrelenting hate-filled attacks” by Umno and MCA have, however, convinced him that a police report may be unavoidable after all.

Lim, who is also the DAP secretary-general, said that his family has reluctantly decided that they have no other choice but to act .

“Not to act will allow these bullies to continue to stain my young son’s image,” he stated. “My young son says that he will try to find the courage to face these bullies and cowards who refuse to apologise for their morally despicable and barbaric lies.”

Lim also branded BN and Umno politicians as “cowards” for picking on a young boy and singled out Umno Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, in his immediate response to the matter.

Khairy had tweeted “Mungkin dia roboh Kampung Buah Pala sebab nak ganti dengan Kampung Buah Dada.” (Perhaps he demolished Kampung Buah Pala because he wanted to replace it with Kampung Breasts)

“Khairy must be the biggest bully in Malaysia to pick on a young boy who cannot defend himself,” Lim said.

“What type of father is he to his two young sons when he doesn’t feel any remorse at his shameful lewd remarks?”

Lim also reminded BN and Umno that he had told them if they wanted to finish him off politically to go ahead and do so but to leave his son alone.

Unfortunately, he noted, Umno has refused and continued implying that something must be amiss if no police report is lodged.

“Umno Online even quoted a fictitious report from Guang Ming that I had said my young son was transferred out to another school because of drug problems in his former school,” Lim said.

“Lately pro-MCA blogs have also joined in politicising the issue by agreeing with Muhyiddin and hinted that I am not a good father for refusing to lodge a police report.”

“We will give Umno Online 48 hours to withdraw and apologise for their dirty politics and lies against my son or else a police report will be lodged and other action taken.”
