Shahrizat playing tit for tat over NFC

 | November 30, 2011

Shahrizat says that if she should resign because of her husband, than Wan Azizah should resign because of Anwar.

UPDATED

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who is mired in the National Feedlot Center controversery is trying to turn the tables on PKR.

There has been calls for her to resign because of her husband’s involvement in the NFC. Her husband Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail is the NFC chairman. Shahrizat’s family has been accused of misusing a RM250 million government soft loan given for the NFC project.

In response to the opposition asking for her resignation, Shahrizat today told Wanita delegates if that was the case, than PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should resign for Anwar’s misdeeds.

PKR women wing’s chief Zuraida Kamaruddin had last week called for Shahrizat’s resignation.

Shahrizat dared Zuraida to demand Wan Azizah’s resignation.

“If this is her (Zuraida) basis, I demand you to urge Wan Azizah to resign her position.

“Pressure Azizah to resign for Anwar’s deeds. Only then she is terror,” said Shahrizat, who is also an Umno senator and Women, Family, Community Development Minister.

The NFC was first highlighted as a failure by the Auditor General’s Report late last month.

PKR subsequently revealed that the centre had purchased two luxury condominium units in Bangsar and that the executive director and a fellow director had performed umrah using the company’s finances. The directors are Shahrizat’s husband and son.

Shahrizat maintained her husband’s innocence in the controversy while comparing Anwar who was found guilty of sodomy charges.

She also took a jab at PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli who has been at the forefront in exposing the NFC scandal.

“Rafizi is a Si Tanggang who studied abroad because of our sacrifices. Once returning home, he has become a traitor,” she said.

Si Tanggang is a Malay folk story about a son who betrays his mother.

Zuraida hits back at ‘cow minister’

Meanwhile, Zuraida hit back at Shahrizat, stating that her comments were unbecoming of a Muslim woman.

“After a long silence and absence from parliament, she is forced to give a speech at the Umno AGM but her statement is of low quality and embarrasses Malaysian women.

“I also regret that the whole of Umno Wanita is brought into the fray over a scandal involving her family,” said the Ampang MP in parliament today.

She said that Shahrizat did not display an ounce of shame over the allegations of misuse of public funds. Zuraida labelled her as the “the cow minister of the year”.
