The son of the former MIC president says that he is merely the coordinator for the seat which his father held for three decades.
Although touted as a potential candidate to reclaim his father, former MIC president S Samy Vellu’s stronghold, the 50-year-old businessman said he would back anyone selected by the party top leadership to contest the seat.
He was appointed as the constituency’s coordinator by MIC president G Palanivel last November.
Vell Paari was responding to a statement by Sungai Siput division chief R Ganesan, who expressed support for Palanivel to contest the seat.
He said that as a division leader, Ganesan had the right to voice his opinion.
“As far as I am concerned, I will back not only Palanivel but anyone as long as he or she is a winnable candidate,” he added.
Vell Paari, who expressed happiness for being appointed as the coordinator for the seat, said that he visited the constituency regulary to sort out the problems faced by the locals there.
“Sungai Siput voters are the ones who gave an identification to my family and it is my obligation to repay them,” he added.
Quizzed on the speculation that he might be fielded, Vell Paari said it would be premature to comment on that.
However, he did not rule out the possibility of contesting if given the opportunity.
“I am familiar with the place and I know all the good and bad things about Sungai Siput,” he said, reiterating that the final decision was with the party leadership.
