PAS MP Khalid Samad claimed that the agents targetted PKR MPs in order to destroy the party's credibility.
“It was an attempt by the agents to show the public that PKR leaders were untrustworthy,” claimed Khalid.
Yesterday, the PAS leader revealed a video clip purpotedly showing two BN agents involved in negotiations to “purchase” 15 Pakatan Rakyat MPs.
The three-hour long video was shot at a resturant in Klang Valley in 2010. However, Khalid only showed four minutes of the clip to reporters.
He alleged that the opposition parliamentarians were offered RM2 million each to jump ship. Khalid said that he would reveal the names of the MPs on Tuesday.
Asked on why he had not revealed the names yesterday, Khalid said he wanted to allow the MPs involved enough time to respond to the news.
“But I will still reveal the more details on Tuesday,” he said without elaborating.
Khalid is set to lodge a report with the MACC and the police on the expose next week.
PKR the main enemy
Commenting on the matter, PKR leader Chua Jui Meng said that PKR parliamentarians were an obvious target by BN, especially Umno, as they viewed the former party as its main enemy.
“The expose manifests how Umno views us as its main antagonist. It’s because by attacking PKR, they will eventually try to weaken Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim as he’s the key person in Pakatan,” said Chua.
However, Chua acknowledged that Umno has succeeded in some ways when in the past, some of its elected representatives left the party and turned BN friendly.
He added that PKR had put in several measures to stop its elected representatives from jumping ship in the future but declined to elaborate on the details.
“No measure is 100% fool proof but we do try our best to clean up the party. We need quality leaders with integrity,” said the former health minister.
Reveal the full video
Meanwhile, Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin dismissed the allegation and said it was easy for Khalid to accuse BN for it without providing any proof.
The Rembau MP urged Khalid to reveal the full video to substantiate the allegation.
“Anyone can just sit somewhere and claim himself to be with BN and try to buy people over. Even I can claim to be working with Pakatan and say I can offer money to anyone to jump ship,” said Khairy.
Echoing Khairy’s sentiments, MIC secretary-general S Murugesan also urged Khalid to reveal the full video saying the public had the right to know the truth.
“Many had made various accusations before but when they were proven wrong, they just kept mum without apologising. Do show the full video or else remain quiet,” he said.
