Manoharan ‘smashes’ Chong Wei for loss

 | August 6, 2012

The DAP assemblyman made some disparaging comments about Chong Wei's defeat to Lin Dan in the Olympics badminton singles match final.

PETALING JAYA: To Malaysians, Lee Chong Wei is still a hero although he lost to Lin Dan of China in the finals of the Olympics badminton singles match in London yesterday.

Understandably they were upset with Kota Alam Shah DAP assemblyman M Manoharan for making some “distasteful” remarks about Chong Wei’s defeat. They “smashed” him in cyberspace for politicising the event.

Manoharan who uses Twitter handle @mmanoadun said: “Malaysia will win its first gold medal after Pakatan [Rakyat] takes over Putrajaya.

“Lin Dan wins. He played better than Chong AWAY.”

In the match, Chong Wei lost 21-15, 10-21, 19-21 to Lin Dan.

Malaysians who found Manoharan’s comments distasteful were quick to return the shots.

“Do you want to be Twitfamous or what? Are you even a politician?” one Salihin Shukri asked.

Another person who uses the Twitter handle @ellifamira said: “God, this is like one of the stupidest politician I’ve ever seen on Twitter.”

Veteran editor Ahiruddin Atan who uses the Twitter @RockyBru said Manoharan should be given “a gold medal for sheer stupidity”

Last year, Manoharan also courted controversy over his remarks on the national flag, Jalur Gemilang.
