January 20, 2013

This is according to the information received by the Foreign Ministry from the employer of the missing Malaysian duo, says Anifah Aman.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian embassy in Algiers has received information that there is a worrying possibility that one of the two Malaysians still unaccounted for in the In Amenas hostage crisis is dead whilst the fate of the other Malaysian is still unknown.

Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anifah Aman in a statement said a representative from JGC Construction Pte. Ltd, the company that employs the Malaysians, had informed that embassy on the latest developments.

“The Malaysian Embassy will exert all efforts to work closely with the Algerian authorities and JGC Construction Pte.Ltd to verify further on the latest news concerning the two Malaysians,” he said.

Meanwhile, officials from the Embassy of Malaysia in Algiers had met with the three Malaysian hostages who have been transfered to the Algerian capital and are currently making the necessary arrangement to bring them back to Malaysia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had notified the family of the three Malaysians about their condition, the statement added.
