BN’s mandate ends on March 26, says the speaker of the state assembly.
The speaker of the assembly, Abdul Razak Mansor, confirmed this today, saying a caretaker state government would take over the administration of the state on March 27 even if the federal government had not decided to dissolve Parliament by then.
Quoting the state constitution, he told FMT that the term of the current state government would expire on the last Tuesday of this month.
“The people gave the mandate to Barisan Nasional government to administer the state at the 12th general election and the mandate will be over on 26th March,” he said.
“An election needs to be held within 60 days after the state assembly has dissolved.
“A caretaker government will be formed and (current menteri besar) Mohamad Hasan will manage the state until the date of the election.
“Mohamad will be assisted by the current exco.”
Again quoting the state constitution, he said the head of state, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, would appoint a government if an election fails to take place 60 days after the dissolution of the state legislature.
Asked if he would defend his Pertang seat, Abdul Razak said the decision lay with the top Umno leadership.
