 | October 25, 2013

The BR1M payout has been increased and an insurance has been introduced under the Budget.

PETALING JAYA: Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) will be increased by RM150 to RM650 for those with an household income of RM3,000 under Budget 2014 and every recipient will be covered by an i-BR1M insurance policy worth RM50 monthly.

For single people aged 21 and above with an income of less than RM2,000, the aid will be increased by RM50 to RM300.

The BR1M policy began in 2011 when the government gave one-off payments amounting to RM500 to households earning RM3,000 and below.

The BR1M aid has also been extended to the middle-income group. Households earning RM3,000 to RM4,000 will receive RM450.

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said under i-BR1M (1Malaysia People’s Group Takaful Insurance) family members would receive RM30,000 upon death or permanent disability of the recipients.

The government is allocating RM4.6 billion for the i-BR1M programme which will benefit 7.9 million recipients.
