Syabas: It is RM70 to reconnect water supply

 | January 28, 2014

The fee charged for reconnecting cut water supply was gazetted in 2006

PETALING JAYA: The full fee for reconnecting water supply in Selangor is RM70 and Syabas is currently subsidising the extra RM20, says an official from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor.

The official who refused to be named said that the water tariffs and reconnection fees were gazetted by the state government in 2006 itself.

According to him, Syabas is not charging exorbitant fees for reconnection.

“We are not charging the fee in order to make huge profits but merely following the gazetted tariffs,” said the source.

He further advised consumers to pay on time before their water supply is disconnected to avoid any inconveniences. Indeed he added that final reminders are sent out to defaulters before supply is cut.

Yesterday, Selangor exco for Plantation, Poverty and Caring government V Ganabatirau slammed water concessionaire Syabas for charging an exorbitant reconnection fee for cut water supply.

He said Syabas was charging RM50 to reconnect water supply for homes which had its water cut due to non-payment of bills and this only makes people suffer in these testing times where cost of goods had sky-rocketed.

Ganabatirau also called Syabas to be a user friendly company supplying water to millions of people.

He also hopes that the state government takes over Syabas and settle the issue on exorbitant fees currently charged.
