police_nude_event_0808_640_425_100GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a 34 year-old music teacher from Bayan Lepas for investigations into the nude sports activities in Teluk Kampi, Penang National Park on May 30.

The suspect was among the 18 in the controversial video that went viral last week engaging in nude sports activities.

The teacher is now being probed under Section 294 of the Penal Code for committing an obscene act in a public place and Section 509 for committing a gesture which could insult the modesty of others.

Section 294 carries a three-month jail term, while it is five years or fine or both under Section 509.

Police have identified 15 participants comprising seven Malaysians, four Singaporeans, two Myanmar nationals, an Indian and a Filipino.

Among the participants are a 57 year-old retired English teacher from Sungai Petani and a Singaporean, who are believed to be the event organisers.

Southwest district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the arrest of the music teacher could lead to more arrests.

He said 11 police reports have been lodged on the incident and statements recorded from 16 people.

Personal details of these individuals were recorded in the park office registry.

Teluk Bahang assemblyman Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah, who is a park management committee member, said the security guard on duty had advised the nudists to stop their activities on that day.

“But the participants ignored his advice,” he said.

He added that the park management was now carrying out an internal investigation to find out why the security guard failed to report the incident.

Shah Headan said it was embarrassing not only to the national park but to the whole nation.

The nudists in the five-minute video, which was uploaded two months ago claimed that their “Penang Nude Sports Games 2014” was part of the Malaysia-International Nude Sports Games 2014 extravaganza.
