Punish those guilty of abusing powers instead, urges PAS
Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim says AG should focus on restoring the image of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
PETALING JAYA: It would be better for the Attorney-General (AG) to amend the law to imprison for life those guilty of abusing their power and tarnishing Malaysia’s image, PAS said.
“It would also be better if those protecting wrongdoers were handed the same sentence,” its deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, wrote in a posting on Facebook.
He was commenting on Mohamed Apandi Ali’s proposal to amend the Official Secrets Act. This would see whistleblowers and journalists producing news, based on leaked documents, imprisoned for life and receiving 10 strokes of the rotan.
Apandi, Tuan Ibrahim said, should focus on restoring the image of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) instead of trying to shield certain quarters.
The AG, he stressed, must not only be just, but must seen to be just.

Without a fair and independent AGC, the integrity of the justice system in the country would crumble, Tuan Ibrahim warned.
