Zahid hopes Chinese support will return to gov’t
Deputy Prime Minister hopes the Year of the Monkey will see the country’s political and economic issues resolved.
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the Chinese New Year will usher in the return of support from the Chinese community for the ruling government.
Zahid who is also Home Minister said he hoped the country’s political and economic issues would be resolved soon.
He said this when met by reporters after MCA’s Chinese New Year celebration held at the MCA building, which was also attended by Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.
“I hope the Year of the Monkey will be more prosperous, and that political and economic issues too can be resolved.
“Therefore I am hoping the Chinese community will return to be together with the government,” he added.
Although he did not specifically mention any events related to his statement, it is believed he was referring to the so-called Chinese Tsunami, that saw the community abandon their support for the ruling coalition in the 13th General Election (GE13).
