KUALA LUMPUR:
The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is in the midst of probing the allegation that DAP received RM1.2 billion in Israeli funds during the 13th General Election (GE13), said Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid said this in a parliamentary written reply to Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) who asked for an update from the home ministry over the accusation.

“The police received two reports regarding the case which were from Menggatal and Jalan Patani.

“This case has been classified as Refer to Other Agencies (RLA) since the offence is under the jurisdiction of the MCMC,” said Zahid in the reply.

It was reported earlier that DAP had allegedly accepted funding from Israel on the condition that if they won the last general election, Israel would be allowed to build a naval base in Port Dickson.

The allegation, made by a former DAP member, has been denied by DAP.

Lim in his question also asked the ministry to state a list of existing criminal laws to curb the culture of political slander.

“On the matter of slander, the law that can be used for this investigation and the action that can be taken is under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Defamation Act 1957 (Act 286) and through a civil suit,” Zahid said.
