Umno secretary defends Nazri’s move to expel the 2Ms
Executive secretary says Nazri and other Supreme Council members have the right to express their views.
ALOR GAJAH: Umno Supreme Council members have the right to express their views by submitting a motion to expel suspended deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Jerlun Umno chief Mukhriz Mahathir, says the party’s executive secretary, Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said this stand was in line with the council members’ respect for Umno’s leadership, which had endured various allegations and slander in attempts to undermine the party’s reputation.
“For example, Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has the right to express his views as a council member. Whatever he (Nazri) plans to bring up, no one can stop him. If there are other council members who want to submit a similar proposal, we will look at the decision which will be made at the next council meeting,” he told reporters during a constituency visit yesterday.
Nazri had said on Friday that he intended to table a motion for the dismissal of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz from Umno. The motion will be tabled at the next Supreme Council meeting, to be held after the Sarawak state election on Saturday.
Ab Rauf said all quarters, especially Umno members, should respect Umno as an institution at all levels of leadership, including the party president and members of the Supreme Council.
“In whatever crisis which befalls Umno, the party members should place their loyalty with the party and its leadership,” he said.
Rauf, who is head of Masjid Tanah Umno division, accompanied Malacca’s Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, and popular artiste Siti Nurhaliza in distributing food items and health equipment to 60 orphans, senior citizens and the less fortunate in the constituency.
He said the contributions were aimed at easing the burden of the people, as well as in preparation for the fasting month in June. Ramadan is considered a welfare month for the party.
