BN’s development agenda not genuine, says Wan Azizah
PKR president says development in Sarawak remains at minimal level even after more than 50 years under BN rule.
SIBU: The development agenda outlined by the Barisan Nasional (BN) is merely aimed at fishing for votes, according to PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The Borneo Post quoted her saying that more than 50 years after the formation of Malaysia, development in Sarawak was still at a minimal level.
“I have just returned from campaigning in Saribas. Five ‘kampungs’ (villages) in the area do not have treated water supply. They get their water from a river.
“Moreover, that river has crocodiles — people are risking their lives every time they go there, even for taking a bath,” she told reporters at Bandong Walk.
On the Borneo Highway, she said: “I was in high school when I heard about the Borneo Highway. Today, this highway project has yet to be completed.”
The report said she expressed hope PKR would retain the three seats it had won in the last state polls, but that she was not very optimistic about it because of the so-called ‘transfer of votes’ from one constituency to another.

Asked about PKR’s ties with DAP, Wan Azizah said they were good in Peninsular Malaysia, according to the report. She hoped that in the areas where both parties were contesting against each other and the BN in the Sarawak polls, the votes would not end up with the BN.
