Grandma of Aziz Isa unhappy he is contesting on DAP ticket
However, Abdul Aziz’s father supports his decision to contest on an Opposition ticket in Batu Kitang.
KUCHING: The grandmother of Abdul Aziz Isa, the DAP Batu Kitang candidate, is unhappy with her grandson’s decision to contest in the state election on an Opposition ticket.
Speaking to reporters at Batu Kitang, Mazuyin Abd Manan, 75, who had been active in Sarawak politics for decades, said she was shocked when she heard of it.
“I don’t like the fact that my own grandson wants to fight against BN, and this is why I’m here to support BN’s Batu Kitang candidate Lo Khere Chiang. Don’t vote for Abdul Aziz, I don’t like it.
“He’s really young, hasn’t even started working, but suddenly now he wants to go against the government.
Asked what she would feel if Abdul Aziz were to join the PBB one day, Mazuyin dismissed the idea almost immediately.
“I don’t want him in PBB. I have told everyone that if one day he wants to join PBB, they should not accept him.”
Aziz’s father, Marindo Tahar, when contacted, told FMT that he was aware of Mazuyin’s disapproval. However, having moulded Aziz for politics since young, all he was concerned about was his son’s desire to serve the rakyat.
“I have my own plan for my son and I’m supporting his pursuit for a career where he can speak out for the good of Sarawakians. My mother’s side, they are all strong supporters and members of PBB.
“But her disapproval will not affect Aziz as he is serious in his vision to be the voice of all Sarawakians. And he’s doing everything he can to do just that.”
Marindo also expressed disappointment with the dirty tactics the Sarawak BN was using by pitting Aziz against his grandmother just to secure a win.
“They are trying to break a family. But the fact is I myself have never stopped Aziz from joining DAP. I know he can be a good check and balance who would not allow BN to continue doing whatever they wish.”
