SERDANG:
The police have detained an 11-year-old Myanmar boy who allegedly faked his own kidnap, with help from his older cousin to force the former’s sister to pay a RM40,000 ‘ransom’ to enable the duo to enjoy an Australian vacation together.

The boy and his 23-year-old male cousin were picked up in Bangi near here last Monday.

Serdang police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the older man who posed as a kidnapper had threatened to ‘sell’ the boy if the sister failed to settle the ransom.

He said following negotiations, the man agreed to reduce the ransom to RM20,000.

“Acting on information, we located the boy about 48 hours after the negotiations,” Megat Mohd Aminuddin told a press conference here today.

He also said the suspects had planned to use the ransom money for a holiday in Australia.

He said the duo were remanded for four days to facilitate investigations.
