‘Love Twitter’, says Tony after making it to Top 20 Index
AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes thanks social networking microblogging service Twitter, for having “done a lot” for him.
“Love Twitter. Done a lot for me. Kinda cool to see this,” Fernandes tweeted yesterday.
In the list, Fernandes occupies 16th spot among other well-known entrepreneurs like Tim Cook of Apple, Bill Gates of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Elon Musk of Tesla Motors, listed as the top three.
Others include Richard Branson of Virgin (fifth placing), Rupert Murdoch of 21st Century Fox (sixth placing) and Yuanqing Yang of Lenovo (15th placing).
Twitter follower Mahmood Razak tweeted a message of congratulations to Fernandes, saying: “For sure you’re influential even sans Twitter, sir. There’s surely a fan base. From my first interview with you I was a fan.”
Another follower, using the handle tzeko mah tweeted: “Very cool, Tony. Thanks for putting Malaysia in the limelight (for the right reason). Cheers!” while Billy Yau Ming Kong said: “That’s so cool TS! Keep tweeting as the tweet is mightier than the sword.”
Not limiting himself to Twitter, Fernandes also took to Facebook and posted the results of The #TwitterInfluence Index Top 20 with a message that said: “What would I do without Twitter. Quite cool to see me in that company. Social media has played a key part in my life probably most of us.”
Rozhan Kl, a Facebook user following Fernandes said: “You have empowered the people whose lives you touch, both your team and your guests. Congratulations Tan Sri Tony Fernandes! Hope to meet you one day.”
Rivellino Valerio meanwhile said: “Not surprising being the visionary person that you are… Your story has reinforced my believe that anything is possible! Thank you!” while John Liam wrote: “I’m from the Philippines and I idolize you as a businessman. You made flying a lot more open and accessible compared to the last century.”
