Mystery of ‘Auckland Swezeland’ solved
Local celebrity entrepreneur lands in New Zealand for family vacation, not Swezeland.
PETALING JAYA: The mystery of ‘Auckland Swezeland’ appears to have been solved after Aliff Syukri checked-in at Wiri, New Zealand on his Instagram account yesterday.
Earlier, the D’Herbs owner courted controversy when he posted a picture of himself sitting on the floor of the KL International Airport (KLIA) eating durian with his family members before boarding a flight to ‘Auckland Swezeland.’
While he was slammed by netizens for his lack of manners and inconsideration, many also mocked his use of ‘Auckland Swezeland’ in the photo caption.
In an update of his vacation on his Instagram account, the local celebrity entrepreneur posted a video of himself going through Customs in New Zealand, with the location of the video marked as ‘Wiri, New Zealand’.
Aliff also informed his followers that the Customs authorities had confiscated the food supplies he brought with him, which included ‘belacan, madu, budu’ (chilli paste, honey and shrimp paste).
“Hp saya juga syaris2 dirampas krn kawasan larangan mnggunakan hp,” Aliff wrote. (My handphone was almost confiscated too because I was using it in a no-handphone zone.)
Prior to that, Aliff posted a picture of himself with his family upon landing in New Zealand.
He expressed his worry that his food supplies would not make it through Customs and would likely end up in the rubbish bin.
“Cuma yg saya bimbang bekalan saya sambal belacan, ikan masin, sardin, serai, cili, bawang, beras, minyak asam jawa, budu smua selamat lah… jangan kena buang tong sampah.. Mau menagis saya..,” he wrote.
(I am worried for my supplies – chilli paste, salted fish, sardine, lemongrass, chilli, onions, rice, tamarind oil, shrimp paste…hopefully it will be okay, hope it doesn’t end in the rubbish bin, I want to cry.)
In his posting yesterday, Aliff was chided for saying that being ‘orang kampung’, it was the ‘style’ to sit on the floor when eating.
“Before flying to Auckland Swezeland…we’re eating Musang King durians together as a family in KLIA…we’re definitely village people, this is how we do it…Good thing we weren’t scolded by KLIA’s staff…Have any of you been like this too?” he had written.
Many took to telling him that far from being ‘kampung’ behaviour, it was simply inconsiderate behaviour to sit on the floor in a public place and have a meal.
Comedian Harith Iskander hashtagged the phrase #AucklandSwezeland in a tweet, saying, “Nothing wrong with being “kampung”. But being “ignorant/rude” is NOT being kampung.”
