‘Once you announce it publicly, you are out’
We have 1.07 million members and Ridhuan Tee is only one of them, says MCA President Liow Tiong Lai.
GEORGE TOWN: Those who publicly renounce their MCA membership will cease to be members, party President Liow Tiong Lai said.
He said once the announcement was made, no consideration would be given.
“No consideration will be given. It is the same for all.
“Unless they retract (their statement), maybe we’ll reconsider,” Liow told reporters after opening the Sekolah Penyayang Conference at Lot 33, Prangin Mall, today.
Liow was asked about Sinar Harian columnist and preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, who announced that he would quit as a MCA life member.
Tee said he would do so as MCA was against the Private Members’ bill to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, in relation to enhancing their punishment provisions, moved by Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang at the Dewan Rakyat recently.
Liow said Tee was one of “many” MCA life members.
“He is only one of them. I have so many members in the party, 1.07 million of them.”
