S’wak Christians prepare bubur lambuk for Muslim friends
Telang Usan assemblyman says act exemplifies tolerance of Sarawak’s multiracial and multi-religious people.
PETALING JAYA: The Christian community in Long Lama, Sarawak, has been hailed for their spirit of tolerance and harmony after helping the Muslim community there prepare bubur lambuk.
According to a Borneo Post Online report, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau commended the predominantly Christian community in Long Lama for their efforts.
He said the community was working closely with the few Muslim families in preparing and distributing bubur lambuk in the spirit of peace and brotherhood during Ramadan.
At a bubur lambuk distribution event, Dennis said this exemplified the tolerance of Sarawak’s multiracial and multi-religious people.
“Today, we see the Christian community of Long Lama working together with their Muslim brethren during Ramadan, reflecting our respect and tolerance of each other’s religious practices and customs seldom seen anywhere else,” Dennis told the Sarawak-based daily.
He suggested that the practice be made an annual event to further enhance ties between the people of different faiths in the area.
Meanwhile, in Kuching, Borneo Post Online reported partyless Mambong assemblyman Dr Jerip Susil as saying he was willing to join any Barisan Nasional (BN) party which was strong.
Jerip, together with eight other partyless assemblymen who contested as direct BN candidates in the recent state elections, had previously applied to join Sarawak BN’s biggest party, PBB, but were instructed to consult their constituents first.
Speaking at an event on Saturday, Jerip said it did not matter which BN party he went to because what really mattered was the smooth implementation of development programmes in Mambong.

The state’s assistant minister for public health, who was previously from UPP, said he would get feedback from the constituents and listen to the voice of the majority on whether he should join PBB.
