PAS: Guan Eng innocent until proven guilty
The Islamist party questions the stark contrast between the way Lim Guan Eng’s case and Prime Minister Najib Razak’s RM2.6 billion scandal were handled.
“PAS continues to hold onto the principle stated by the party President Abdul Hadi Awang that Lim is innocent until he is proven guilty.
“A charge cannot be deemed as a conviction. Let the judge be the one to decide,” he said in a statement issued this afternoon.
Echoing the sentiment shared by the Islamist party’s former allies PKR and DAP, Tuan Ibrahim questioned the stark contrast between the way the Attorney-General handled the investigations that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducted on Lim, and Prime Minister Najib Razak’s controversial RM2.6 billion political donation.
“Until today, PAS still regrets AG Mohamed Apandi Ali’s decision not to bring Najib’s case to court, the way he did with Lim, where he is also the lead prosecutor.”
This morning, Lim and businesswoman Phang Li Khoon were charged at Penang’s Sessions Court over their bungalow deal last year. Lim also faces an additional charge relating to a land application.
The DAP secretary-general was represented by Gobind Singh Deo who led the defence team, while Apandi acted as the lead prosecutor.
The AG successfully had the case transferred to the Penang High Court where Judicial Commissioner Azmi Ariffin set bail for Lim at RM1 million with one surety.

Lim, however, was allowed to keep his passport on the condition he notifies the AG’s Chambers and the High Court two days before leaving the country.
