Umno Youth lodges report on alleged plot to topple PM
The report was lodged against former Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth today lodged a police report against the former heads of two institutions as well as the outgoing head of another for allegedly trying to topple Prime Minister Najib Razak.
The wing’s vice-chief, Khairul Azwan Harun, lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters against former Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Abu Kassim Mohamed.
“I have reason to believe that these individuals had on their own, or jointly, taken part in a conspiracy to topple Najib and the Malaysian Government, which was legally elected,” stated Khairul in the report sighted by FMT.
The methods the three had allegedly used, added Khairul, included providing confidential information to US agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
This was done without the authorisation of, among others, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, he said.
He also alleged that the majority of the documents were fictitious and falsified to help them (the trio) achieve their “malicious” goals.
“These are not baseless allegations and I urge the police to investigate this matter immediately.”
Khairul’s report came following the US Department of Justice’s (DoJ) recent civil forfeiture suits against individuals who allegedly misappropriated over US$3.5 billion in 1MDB funds.
The DoJ had alleged the offences were committed over a four-year period and involved multiple individuals, including Malaysian officials and their associates, who conspired to fraudulently divert billions of dollars from 1MDB.
