Zeti, Abu Kassim to discuss Umno Youth report with counsel
Umno Youth had made police report against three top officials about alleged attempt to topple prime minister.
KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and immediate past Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz refused to comment on a police report which alleged they attempted to topple the prime minister.
“I will not say anything without the presence of my legal counsel,” Zeti said when met a function hosted by the anti-graft agency here this evening.
Abu Kassim, meanwhile, said he would issue an official statement tomorrow after discussing the matter with his lawyer.
“I don’t want to comment tonight.”
Earlier today, Umno Youth Vice-Chief Khairul Azwan Harun lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters against Zeti, Abu Kassim and former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail.
In his report, Khairul said he had reason to believe that the trio had on their own, or jointly, taken part in a conspiracy to topple Najib Razak and the Malaysian Government.
The methods the three had allegedly used, added Khairul, included providing confidential information to US agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
He claimed that this was done without the authorisation of, among others, the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Khairul also alleged that the majority of the documents were fictitious and falsified to help them (the trio) achieve their “malicious” goals.

Gani has since described the allegations as a publicity stunt.
