Shooting victim bought new car to avoid being followed
The victim’s friend says he bought a Honda Accord just two weeks ago after he suspected that he was being followed.
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who was shot dead at the Jalan Taman Ibu Kota/Jalan Genting Klang junction here yesterday had just bought a new car after suspecting that he was being followed, according to his friend.
The friend, who refused to be named, said the victim, who had operated a money-changing business for the past 10 years, drove a Toyota Camry previously.
“He bought a new Honda Accord just two weeks ago,” he told Bernama.
According to police, the victim died on the spot in the 3.35pm incident after being shot at 18 times by four suspects on two motorcycles.
Ten shots hit him.
A witness told Bernama that he heard repeated gunshots, which he initially thought were firecrackers.
“I did not think that they were real gunshots,” said the witness, who only wanted to be known as Sazwan, adding that he and two friends were having a drink at a stall nearby when the incident happened.
He said it happened so fast and that people gathered around the car in seconds before calling the police.
