Police sergeant dies after accidental shooting by colleague
The lance corporal pulled the trigger of a Walther PPK pistol as he was performing a routine weapon inspection procedure.
SERDANG: A police sergeant was killed after being accidentally shot at by his colleague at the Serdang district police headquarters (IPD), here today.
In the 9am incident, the 57-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a bullet accidentally fired by a lance corporal, aged 32, who was at the armoury of the Serdang IPD.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the lance corporal, attached to the armoury, pulled the trigger of a Walther PPK pistol as he was performing a routine weapon inspection procedure.
“The lance corporal did not realise that there was another bullet in the pistol.
“The bullet penetrated the window and hit the victim, who was inspecting a patrol car, about 70 metres from the store room,” he told a press conference, here today.
He said the victim, attached to the Serdang IPD mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Serdang Hospital, here before being pronounced dead at 3.45pm.
Megat Mohd Aminuddin said police had recorded a statement from the lance corporal and investigation into the case was underway.
