PKR campaign on how 1MDB affects you
Muhyiddin supports the drive, Azmin says if left to ministers, ‘they will cover it up until doomsday’.
PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat has begun an initiative to explain to the people the “complicated issues” regarding 1Malaysia Development Berhad, party leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.
She said PKR was having discussions with its allies in Pakatan Harapan.
“We are speaking to Pakatan Harapan component parties, civil societies, other political parties as well as other individuals to join us in the cause to explain to people, both inside and outside the urban areas, how 1MDB affects us all,” she said.
Wan Azizah also welcomed the presence of former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin at the press conference who expressed his willingness to support the cause.
“I support the initiative taken by PKR and other leaders to go across the country to explain a scandal involving the Prime Minister (Najib Razak) that is being dubbed the biggest scandal in the world, because if an explanation is not given then the people will not know how this can have implications on the country,” he said.
“This scandal has tarnished the image of the country and now our PM has become the talk of the town all around the world. It has affected our development and foreign investment as people have lost confidence in the country.”
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is menteri besar of Selangor, said that Muhyiddin’s involvement would be most beneficial to the cause as he has inside information since he had held a high position in the Cabinet previously.
He added that the initiative was important as 1MDB had effects on the cost of living as well as the future of the country and that if left to Barisan Nasional, the truth would never be revealed.
“If we wait for the ministers to explain to the people the truth behind 1MDB, they will cover up the facts until doomsday,” he claimed.
When asked whether this initiative will make a difference, Wan Azizah said that regardless of whether it makes a difference or not, something must be done to “save the country.”
“We never thought we’d be able to deny BN a two-thirds majority in Parliament but we did. The most important thing is to fight for justice whether or not you get results.”
