Man detained over report against ‘deputy minister’s aide’
Police arrest four people, including former journalist who alleged man claiming to be a personal assistant to deputy home minister, threatened to shoot him and wife.
PETALING JAYA: A man who made a police report alleging he and his wife were threatened by a man claiming to be a personal assistant to a deputy minister has been detained for further investigations.
In his report, which was shared on Facebook, Mohd Adli Efendy Mohd Zaki said the alleged threat to shoot him and his wife took place yesterday after he had dropped off his daughter near a school in Damansara for his ex-wife to pick up.
Several minutes later, his ex-wife’s husband arrived accompanied by others in two minivans. Soon after, an unknown woman tried to “drag” his daughter away.
Adli Efendy, who is a former journalist, alleged that when he told the group not to use force on his daughter, he was assaulted and that his daughter, wife and mother were also roughed up.
In his police report, Adli Efendy alleged that after he was assaulted, the man who claimed to be a deputy home minister’s personal assistant then threatened to shoot him and his wife if he did not hand over his daughter.
However, according to a report by Malaysiakini today, Home Ministry sources denied that the man who allegedly made the threat works for Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamad.
The Second Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat also denied the accused works for him. Malaysiakini said sources from the Home Ministry had also informed them that the man, said to be a “Datuk” does not even work at the ministry.
When contacted, Petaling Jaya police chief Mohd Zani Che Din said Adli Efendy and four others have already been detained for questioning over the incident.
He said a total of six people, including the man who allegedly claimed to be a deputy minister’s aide, were being probed for rioting.
“We will investigate the alleged shooting threat if there is any evidence of it,” Zani said.
