BN could win S’gor if no snap polls, warns Amanah
Amanah leader calls for presidential meeting with Pakatan Harapan allies, DAP and PKR, to evaluate two key threats that could lead to fall of state government.
Amanah Communications Director Khalid Samad claimed that studies the party had carried out showed that it would only be wise to reject the idea of snap polls in Selangor if there is a guarantee that either one of these factors would not take place.
“Therefore, Amanah is calling for a presidential meeting with all Pakatan Harapan component parties to discuss whether or not there was such a guarantee.
“Amanah is of the view that if there is no guarantee that one of these possibilities will not occur, then it is only rational that Selangor carries out snap elections in order to thwart the evil plan carried out by the EC which has allowed itself to become a tool for BN to continue oppressing the rakyat,” Khalid, who is also the MP for Shah Alam said at a press conference in his office here today.
This is the first time that Amanah – PKR and DAP’s partner in the Pakatan Harapan coalition – has brought up the topic of snap elections for Selangor.
Previously, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang proposed that Selangor carry out snap elections in the face of the redelineation proposal while Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali rejected the idea.
Khalid pointed out that with the redelineation exercise, BN would be able to remain in power even if they only had 40 per cent of the votes.
“In 2013, Pakatan Rakyat won 52% of the popular but BN was allowed to remain in power due to the current boundaries for parliamentary seats.
“If this redelineation exercise is carried out then it will become even worse.”
Also present was Amanah Strategy Director Dzulkefly Ahmad, who said that the redelineation exercise will see certain constituencies having four times more voters than other constituencies.
“The redelineation exercise makes a complete mockery of the principle of one person, one vote,” he said.
He claimed that all objections against the redelineation would be futile when the EC tables its proposal in Parliament.
“The EC’s tabling of the redelination proposal can be seen to be nothing more than an announcement that the redelination will happen.”
Amanah is also calling on all members and Amanah supporters to make themselves available for Bersih 2.0’s convoy on Oct 1 and the rally itself, scheduled to be held on Nov 19.
