Najib ends Umno assembly with DAP’s ‘screw Malays’ video
Umno president says this shows DAP and Mahathir Mohamad are using one another to further their own political interests.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno President Najib Razak ended the party’s 70th general assembly today with yet another attack on the DAP.
Towards the tail end of his winding up speech, Najib surprised the crowd with a Chinese language video depicting DAP’s former member Hew Kuan Yew telling Sarawakians to let the “Malays screw themselves”.
Najib also played another video featuring Hew, this time saying in Cantonese: “(Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad) kill Najib.”
According to Najib, this showed DAP and Mahathir were bent on using one another to further their political interests.
“There is no need for me to say who is using who,” Najib said in his winding up speech today.
The videos were screened during the Sarawak state election earlier this year, prompting party leaders to disassociate themselves from Hew.
The man nicknamed “Superman” however defended his statements and said that if he was really a racist, he would not have campaigned for DAP’s Batu Kitang candidate Abdul Aziz Isa during the Sarawak election in May.
Hew however quit the party after making several other controversial statements, but continued speaking at functions organised by the DAP.
On a separate note, Najib said the Umno-led government had never grown tired of serving the public as past records showed the party always fulfilled its promises.
