MCA, Gerakan slam IDEAS for saying DAP bashing bad for nation
What about DAP bashing the others, ask Barisan Nasional parties.
PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional’s coalition members – MCA and Gerakan – took a think-tank to task for suggesting that DAP-bashing at the recent Umno general assembly would split the country along racial lines.
Representatives from both parties said Umno had done no wrong as the Malay-based party was always at the receiving end from the DAP.
The Institute for Democracy & Economic Affairs (IDEAS) chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan sparked the outburst from MCA and Gerakan when he said DAP was “nothing more than a code to refer to the Chinese”, adding that Umno’s attacks would split the country along racial lines.
MCA’s Ti Lian Ker questioned: “What about DAP whacking MCA and Umno along racial lines?
“How is it that when DAP bashes Umno and MCA, it is ok with Saiful? Surely it works both ways,” Ti told FMT.
The DAP, he said, was wooing Chinese support based on the sentiment that the community was being discriminated.
The former Pahang assemblyman added that DAP “loved to engage in hate politics”, citing former DAP firebrand “Superman” Hew Kuan Yau’s political antics.
Ti pointed out that DAP did not discipline Hew even after his “screw the Malays” remark.
Selangor Gerakan Youth vice-chief Ivanpal Grewal Singh said Umno was merely informing the members and general public about DAP’s stance on several matters.
More importantly, Ivanpal added, statements made were based on actual events, citing the video of Hew as an example.
