Cops deny Khalid’s claim attackers not in ID parade
KL police chief tells public not to believe the Shah Alam MP’s allegation that none of his ‘main assailants’ were present at a recent police identity parade.
PETALING JAYA: Police have taken Amanah’s Khalid Samad to task for claiming that none of the suspects who attacked him on Parliament grounds were present at a recent identification parade.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh said Khalid’s remarks were untrue as all suspects previously arrested over the riot in Parliament were present at the parade.
“All suspects arrested had taken part in the parade. This includes the son of the deputy minister. Only one suspect hasn’t been identified,” he said.
The son of the deputy minister Amar was referring to was the son of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
This contradicts Khalid’s statement yesterday that his “main assailants” and Tajuddin’s son were missing from the parade.
On Nov 24 last year, Khalid was attacked by a mob of 30 as he was entering Parliament. Fortunately, he was shielded from the mob by security officers.
The next day, 12 members of Umno Pasir Salak surrendered themselves to the police over the Parliament fracas.
Amar said Khalid identified two suspects from 11 individuals in the police identity parade held on Jan 10.
Amar also said the identity parade was conducted in accordance with police standard operating procedures.
“Once again, the KL police would like to stress that the statement made by Khalid is untrue.
“We would like to advise the public not to believe Khalid’s statement and to avoid speculating until the investigation in this matter is completed.”

The mob had confronted Khalid last year because he called Tajuddin “menteri sial” (damned minister) after Tajuddin referred to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok as “the only woman with a Kok” in Parliament.
