Logistics exec shot dead while driving car in Penang
Gunman, riding pillion on motorcycle, fires 10 shots at victim as she is driving alone in her BMW in Bayan Lepas.
GEORGE TOWN: A 49-year-old logistics executive was shot dead in her car as she was driving in Bayan Lepas here today.
The incident happened at 5.45pm when the woman, whose identity police are withholding, was driving along Jalan Pekaka 1 in her BMW 3 series GT towards Jalan Bukit Gambir.
In the incident, two men on a motorcycle rode up to the driver’s side of the woman’s car.
The pillion rider then fired 10 shots in her direction, causing her to rear-end a Land Rover, driven by a man in his 30s, Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Zainol Samah said.
The impact caused the Land Rover to surge forward until Lintang Pekaka 9, when the driver managed to stop his vehicle in front of a house.
The woman’s car however was still travelling at full speed, with smoke billowing from the rear tyres before it veered and crashed into the porch of a house on Lintang Pekaka 9, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The speeding BMW indicates that the woman still had her foot on the accelerator even after she was shot.
Zainol said the victim sustained six shots to her chest and other parts of her body.
“She is not involved in criminal gang activities as is being speculated. We will conduct an investigation and reveal the findings to all. Please be patient,” he said.
“Nama… saya tak boleh sebut… hormat pada orang yang mati” (“I cannot reveal the name. We have to respect the dead”), Zainol told reporters at the scene of the crime.
