Council officer mulling police report against ranting taxi driver
Woman traumatized by taxi driver’s expletive-riddled ravings.
GEORGE TOWN: A Penang Island City Council (MBPP) officer is planning to lodge a police report against a taxi driver who had verbally abused her outside a council forum in Komtar earlier this week.
Taxi driver Lim Eng Chow, 49, was alleged to have uttered sexist and foul words to an architect with the Building Department.
A MBPP spokesperson said that the woman was “severely traumatised” by the incident and was unable to focus at work as a result.
“After Lim was booted out from the auditorium, he started berating a council officer.
“She broke into tears when he started blasting her with foul words in Hokkien. She is now contemplating reporting him to the police.”
The spokesperson said Lim was the same person who assaulted a council enforcement officer who had clamped his taxi at Gurney Drive on Jan 16 last year.
“Lim was charged with assault after he put a council enforcement officer in a chokehold.
“His case will be heard in court this year,” the spokesperson said.

In an immediate response, Lim denied scolding the woman, saying he had merely asked for her to “chop” his invitation letter, to show that he had attended the meeting.
He said he could then use the stamped letter to refer to the Public Complaints Bureau of the Prime Minister’s Department.
Lim said he was not afraid because he had video recordings of the conversation on his mobile phone as proof.
“If they are taking me to court for this, I will use my videos as proof. I have nothing to hide,” he told FMT.
On Monday, an angry Lim started screaming at council officials at a forum on beautifying the back lanes of George Town.
His expletive-riddled rant was caught on video by newsmen who watched in shock. About 30 participants of the forum also witnessed the scene.
Lim was unhappy with the council for an alleged lack of action on illegally parked cars at the back lanes of Hong Kong Street (now Jalan Cheong Fatt Tze off Carnarvon Street).
City secretary Yew Tung Seang then explained that Lim’s complaints will be looked into. However, that did not appease him and council officers had to escort him out of the auditorium.
