JOHOR BAHRU: Police detained a blogger today, believed to be the person who made defamatory and seditious postings about the nation’s leaders in a blog.

Johor police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, said the man, a Datuk aged 64, was detained at 3.30pm today at the Johor Bahru Utara district police headquarters here.

“Johor police received a report about the defamatory statement about leaders in a blog at 3.06pm today.

“The statement could affect national harmony and well-being,” he said in a statement today.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the suspect was being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948.

He said Johor police advised the public from making or spreading statements which could threaten public order.

“The public are also advised to not be easily influenced by any such statements and not to make wrong assumptions about current developments in the country without referring to valid and trustworthy sources,” he said.
