4 PAS Youth divisions in Selangor want to cut ties with PKR
More PAS Youth divisions in Selangor are expected to call for an end to political cooperation with PKR as ties sour.
Kuala Selangor PAS Youth chief Ahmad Hakimi Othman said the decision was made based on three reasons that affected ties between the two parties in Selangor.
“The first was when PKR’s Malay-Muslim leaders chose to take a cynical view of our efforts to strengthen the shariah courts and ignore our explanations,” Ahmad Hakimi said in a statement today.
“Secondly, in the Sungai Besar by-election, PKR clearly betrayed the terms of the political cooperation with PAS as outlined by the Syura (consultative) Council.
“Thirdly, Selangor’s water issue and its unresolved dispute with SPLASH have dragged PAS into a crisis of public confidence over the state government’s actions.”
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah recently said the party would decide on the future of its cooperation with PKR at its 63rd muktamar on April 29, to be held in Kota Sarang Semut, Kedah.
The motion, should it be accepted and passed by the Syura Council, could result in multi-cornered contests at the next national polls, and could see PAS voters going to Umno.
The move by Kuala Selangor PAS Youth is expected to be followed by several other Youth divisions, according to party insiders who spoke to FMT.
Hulu Langat PAS Youth division chief Zurk Ahmad said the breakup with PKR was something the wing was looking forward to, while his counterpart in Subang, Hanafi Zulkapli urged delegates to vote in favour of a motion to cut ties with PKR.
“The PKR leadership has not shown the spirit of comradeship in its political alliance,” said Kuala Langat PAS Youth chief, Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin.
“We are ready to move all our machinery to ensure victory in all areas in Selangor.”
Meanwhile, in Hulu Selangor, the division’s Youth chief Amri Abdullah Sani said they were now more careful in working together with PKR.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also the PKR deputy president, had recently criticised certain leaders who hoped to wrest Selangor on their own, in a Twitter post believed to be directed at PAS Youth chief, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz.
‘Not party stand’
However, Selangor PAS secretary Khairuddin Othman said the views by Youth leaders in the state were not reflective of the party.
“We have to understand that this is a motion from the youth wing. The youth are aggressive and we have to let them speak. But the decision will be made during the muktamar.
“We also have to understand that the motion was passed by only four out of 22 divisions in Selangor.
“However, we have to take into account our members’ views,” he told FMT.
Khairuddin said PAS-PKR ties in Selangor remained unchanged.
“Selangor PAS’ political cooperation with PKR still stands and we are still a part of the state government.
“There is no problem with our relationship with the state government, so other parties do not need to panic.”
