PAS Dewan Ulama passes motion to cut ties with PKR
But PAS’ highest decision-making body, the Syura Council, will make a final decision on the matter.
PAS Dewan Ulama information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali announced that the motion was passed unanimously.
“Realising that PKR has contravened many conditions of our political cooperation, the ulama wing assembly agrees that cooperation with PKR be terminated subject to the Syura Council’s decision on the matter.”
The announcement was met with shouts of “takbir” (God is great) from the delegates.
The motion to cut ties was put forth by the delegates from Negeri Sembilan and Perak.
The Syura Council – PAS’ highest decision-making body – will make a final decision on the matter.
Should the council agree to sever ties with PKR, a clash between the two parties could be on the cards, especially in Selangor, where they are part of a coalition government alongside DAP.
Recently, Permatang Pauh PAS division chief Omar Hassan accused PKR of trying to sway support from PAS among Malay-Muslim voters in the constituency for the coming general election (GE14).
Bayan Baru PAS division chief Iszuree Ibrahim meanwhile accused PKR of disrespecting PAS when the two parties were part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, and of openly interfering in the Penang fatwa committee’s decisions.
