‘Kit Siang racist’ contest: Many winners, few names
Most of the winners sent representatives to collect the prizes and declined to be named in the RM50,000 contest.
Most winners also sent representatives to collect the prizes at the official prize-giving ceremony today.
Among the winners in the articles category were blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, Utusan Malaysia and Umno supreme council member Puad Zakarshi.
Video recordings of past speeches by PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin also made it into the winners’ list.
The contest attracted about 1,200 entries for the categories of articles, authorship, blogs, videos and infographics.
The article “DAP dangerous to Malay-Muslims in Malaysia” received the top prize of RM10,000. It was written by a group of writers who chose to remain anonymous.
Contest results were announced by Yazid Othman as chairman of the panel of judges at Hotel Blue Wave here.
Annuar gave away the prizes to the winners, most of whom sent representatives.
“Most of the winners declined to attend (the prize-giving ceremony) and sent representatives instead, and there were some among them who did not want to be named,” said the master of ceremonies.
Annuar announced the contest in March this year in response to Lim, the DAP MP for Gelang Patah, describing the Umno man as “the father of all racists”.
An initial prize of RM10,000 was offered for the competition to unearth materials that supported the theme, “Lim Kit Siang an obvious racist, anti-Islam, 51 years a dictator – is it true?”
Following a round of polemics between the two, Annuar upped the total prize money to RM50,000.
