Syed Saddiq challenges ‘hypocrite’ PPBM veep to resign
The PPBM Youth chief alleges Hamidah Osman is the one behind mass resignations in Perak but she says she will comment only later to allegations.
PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman can no longer stand the hypocrisy of PPBM vice-president Hamidah Osman, who he believes was the one responsible for the unravelling of the party’s Perak division.
The PPBM Youth chief said the recent resignation of more than 1,000 Perak PPBM members en masse, claiming dissatisfaction over party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership ability, was masterminded by Hamidah.
Hence, he challenged her to leave the party now instead of staying and making the “good ones” her sacrificial lambs.
“I know she (Hamidah) is behind this. I will say it upfront: I want Hamidah to resign.
“She should stop being a coward by sending her soldiers in front and sacrificing good people for her own personal objectives.
“If you are in the party for positions, then berambus (get lost),” he told FMT.
Syed Saddiq also called Hamidah, the former Gopeng Umno Wanita chief, a hypocrite who is upset with Muhyiddin’s decision not to name her as PPBM Perak state chief.
He said Hamidah had been the biggest apple polisher of Muhyiddin, right until Ahmad Faizal Azumu was named the party’s Perak chief instead of her.
“Before this, she was flattering Muhyiddin like mad, in front of me and everyone, until even I felt uncomfortable.
“The turning point was when Muhyiddin and (PPBM chairman) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) didn’t appoint her as the head of Perak.
“Suddenly, she started condemning Muhyiddin, saying he doesn’t know how to lead.
“It’s quite disgusting to be honest, especially as Faizal is a young, fresh and genuinely talented young person.
“Just because he’s not as old or experienced as Hamidah, she is now going on a rant attacking him and Muhyiddin.”
Syed Saddiq said her rants were “well documented” in WhatsApp messages from various groups, and conversations with other party members.
“So (PPBM) winning or losing (the next general election) … if she’s the one behind all of this, then just leave.
“I don’t think the party should tolerate people who entered the party just for power and positions.”
On Friday, PPBM Ipoh Timur division chief Azrul Suhadi Ahmad Mokhtar and Teluk Intan chief Jemaat Yaacob led more than 1,000 PPBM Perak members in handing in their resignation letters.
Azrul was reported as saying Muhyiddin had failed to resolve conflicts at the national and state levels despite being given a week to do so.
The former state PPBM chief registrar also said he was disappointed that nothing was done after he had reminded the former deputy prime minister that a mass resignation of members would have a negative effect on the party’s image and credibility.
But according to Syed Saddiq, it is better that they leave now rather than when PPBM, along with its Pakatan Harapan (PH) partners, make it into Putrajaya.
This is because the damage that these alleged “agents of Umno” can create if PH becomes the government would be far greater, he said.
“The party will get a lot stronger (with the mass resignations) because this is different from people leaving the party, for example, when there’s a criminal offence committed by the top party leadership, or when we are not carrying out our duties.
“If we look at Mahathir, Muhyiddin, and (PPBM deputy president) Mukhriz Mahathir, they are literally travelling around Malaysia every single day to give ceramah.
“But when it’s about people who are greedy and power hungry, I think it’s best they leave so that the party remains pure from corrupt, greedy people.”
Syed Saddiq’s stance echoed that of Mahathir’s, who in a blog post dated May 22, said those who had called on Muhyiddin to leave or be expelled, wanted PPBM’s efforts to defeat BN in the 14th general election (GE14) to fail.
