Number of flood victims in Melaka rises to 304

Another two relief centres have been opened to accommodate the flood victims.


MELAKA: The number of flood victims in Melaka rose to 304 as of noon today from 254 people this morning.

State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali said another two relief centres were opened at noon in Sekolah Agama Jaim Tanjung Minyak and the Krubong People’s Housing project.

“We have yet to get the actual number of flood victims at the two relief centres and are still in the process of upgrading the data,” he told reporters here today.

He said the number of evacuees at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Munsyi Abdulah relief centre in Batu Berendam had increased to 241 (59 families) from 198 (50 families) this morning.

The number of evacuees in Balai Raya Peringit also increased to 30 people (12 families) compared to 23 people (eight families) this morning, while in the relief centre at Paya Ikan Rural Transformation, the number remained at 33 (six families).
