Ku Nan says it again: BN lost Selangor because of Khir Toyo

 | August 17, 2017

The Umno secretary-general says he knows what happened because he receives poll analyses from every state.

kunan-khirKUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has defended his statement that Barisan Nasional’s defeat in Selangor in the 12th general election (GE12) was caused by voters’ anger at the then menteri besar Mohamad Khir Toyo.

Adnan, the federal territories minister, said he knew the causes of Umno’s defeat by the opposition in Selangor, which included the issue of a Hindu temple’s demolition and Khir’s “award” of brooms to non-performing local councils.

“As Umno secretary-general, I am privy to poll analyses from every state. I know what happened,” he told reporters after launching a property project, The Park 2 Pavilion Bukit Jalil, at Bukit Jalil here today.

“I don’t want to quarrel with Khir Toyo, don’t pit me against him. He knows and I know (the causes of BN’s defeat in Selangor),” he said.

Adnan was responding to a statement by Khir Toyo refuting claims that he was responsible for BN’s defeat by the opposition in Selangor.

He said he became the scapegoat because BN failed to pin-point the actual causes of the coalition’s severe losses in GE12.

Khir Toyo said Selangor BN was continuing to indulge in guesswork and unfair political perceptions despite the poor results since the 2008 general election.

He claimed the problems started after GE12 when the party blamed the loss of Selangor on Khir Toyo.

According to him, BN had forgotten that it lost not only in Selangor but also in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory.
