Azmin says PKR, not him, initiated talks with PAS

 | August 26, 2017

The Selangor MB says he is merely representing his party in the informal discussions with PAS.

azmin-pas-pkrrrPETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali today said talks of a possible alliance with PAS at the next polls were not initiated by him, but were based on a party decision.

“I have said it earlier, there was no formal discussion (with PAS) in the past,” the Selangor menteri besar told reporters today, after reports that he had met PAS leaders to strike a deal for the next general election did not sit well with some party leaders.

“They keep saying that it is my initiative, please it is not my personal initiative. It was a decision taken by PKR.

“I’m just representing the party,” said Azmin.

He said the “informal” discussions between PKR and PAS were strictly limited to between the two parties.

“It has nothing to do with Pakatan Harapan (PH),” he said, referring to the four-party opposition alliance.

Selangor PAS recently dismissed speculations of a deal with PKR. Instead, the party said it would also force three-way contests against Azmin and party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in the state.

The statement got a rare rebuke from Wan Azizah, who said the Islamist party was not serious in toppling Barisan Nasional (BN).

Azmin, meanwhile, said it was “normal” for political parties to contest wherever they wanted.

“This is normal, all political parties want to contest everywhere. This can be resolved through discussions.

“We will discuss with all (parties) except Umno and BN,” he said.
