JOHOR BAHRU: A thief sped off in a car with two children trapped inside.

The children, a girl and a boy, were later found unharmed.

The incident happened at Taman Pulai Indah, Kangkar Pulai, here this morning.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamed said in the 7.45am incident, the three-year-old female child was found by the roadside of the housing estate while the boy, aged five, was left at the entrance of the housing estate.

“The incident happened when the mother of the children, a clinic assistant, was on the way to send her children to her father’s home there.

“Upon arriving at the front of her father’s house, the woman alighted from the car to retrieve an umbrella from the boot as it was raining.

“But suddenly a man entered the woman’s car and locked the door from inside.

“The woman tried to cling on to the car but tripped and fell, injuring her palm and right finger. She also lost a mobile phone.”

The woman’s younger brother tried to follow his sister’s car and spotted his niece abandoned on the roadside several lanes from the father’s house.

The woman later received a call from her brother informing her that someone had found her son at the entrance of the housing estate.

Noor Hashim said the stolen car was later involved in an accident with a lorry in Ulu Choh, Pontian, an hour after the incident.

The man is believed to have fled the scene with an accomplice, he said.
